Celebrate Fairy Day with Pink Poppy!

Dress Up in your best fairy dress, pop on your Pink Poppy wings, tell stories, dance, giggle and embrace your inner fairy friends....

Whether you see them as small winged tenders of the deep natural places of the earth, or as tall stately figures with fair skin and hair, there’s one thing for certain. The world has been absolutely captured by the Fairy Craze. These creatures appear on everything from mugs to t-shirts and have been the subject of children’s fairy tales and even supernatural romances. Fairy Day celebrates these incredible mythological creatures that have captured the imagination of people everywhere and their diverse history.

History of Fairy Day
Fairies have existed in just about every culture over the world, though they may have been called by different names. What they have in common, no matter where you go, is that they are spirits that inhabit the world around us and often operate by strange and often odd laws. That’s about where the similarities end, and where the amazingly diverse concepts that are the fae begin.
We’ve all heard of the winged fairies that flit around flowers and are always drawn like butterfly winged cherubs of slight form, but did you know that Dwarves and Gnomes are also part of the fae family? These creatures were common among the Germanic folk, and especially those who worked in mines and mountains. Knockers were a form of fairy that lived in mines and would ‘knock’ to warn miners of pending cave-ins and danger, hence their name.

The red-hatted gnomes that occupy so many people’s gardens were fashioned after creatures from the far north. These quiet and unassuming creatures were part of the dark northern forests and spent their time living near the homes of humans, which they’d sometimes help out. There’s even fae that lives in the oceans like the Irish Selkie, dark of hair and eye, these creatures were able to turn into humans. Turn into humans we say? Yes! They started lives as seals and would take off their skin when they came ashore and take the form of beautiful girls! 

How to Celebrate Fairy Day
Celebrate Fairy Day by participating in one of the many festivals and celebrations that have formed around the world to honor these mythical creatures. Or you can have a little festival at home by having a fairy themed party with your friends and family! Whatever you do, don’t forget to honor the fae in your own home by leaving out a plate with cookies and a small portion of milk.....and remember to wear your Pink Poppy wings with pretty pride!....xx

Do your children like to create cubby houses inside the house? 
What a perfect way to spend a wet, sleepy Sunday than to build, rebuild, imagine and play for hours in your very own cubby, made with love and laughter!
Children love to create the magical, often "invisible" world of being in a cubby, or a far-away land. Giggles and gorgeous funny memories are made inside a wrap of blankets, held up by chair arms, pegs and buckets!

The delight, the sheer delight....!

Birthday morning. Early start to the day. She is wide awake and looking for the BIRTHDAY bonanza!
As she sees the gifts sitting at the end of her bed, she smiles, she giggles and she then shrills with delight!
 "Its my birthday!!". The whole family is now awake.....
Her attention is drawn immediately to the pink parcel, tied up with purple ribbon. She reads he card.
She carefully lifts the tape.
She giggles again, to find in her pretty parcel a Pink Poppy " Decorate A Crown Kit - for her party with 5 of her friends! What a joy, how exciting. The best news after opening this parcel....was that FIVE of her favorite friends were joining her to celebrate her birthday,  complete with party food, games and so much JOY! This was the best birthday EVER......xx

Staying Home....

If there is one thing that settles a small group of gorgeous, gregarious girls down - its a packet of sparkly pens and pencils and a delightful colouring in sheet! This is a PERFECT way to start a party, as your pint-sized guest start to arrive.....It is a good neutral "leveler" - where little ones can focus on their job, whilst being part of a larger, laughing group! Colouring In is a great activity and development tool for young children. It can promote self confidence and creativity, whilst giving children the freedom to "do their own thing", within the printed lines. Dots, stripes, shapes and splodges all "work" - when you're colouring in! Kids learn a lot from animals. No matter how small they are (goldfish still have needs!). The learn to nurture, feed, clean and care for another being. They become responsible for another living creature. The can build up a friendship and a fun loving emotional bond, with this animal. 
Teaching children, from an early age, to care for something other than themselves is invaluable. Much like older siblings, who often have an inbuilt nurturing ability. Being a part of a caring and considerate family and community - as a child - builds amazing adults......and pet owners for years to come. Enjoy you children, your family,

How many days until....

As children, there are often so many things to look forward to. Their next party, singing class at school, taking the dog for her next walk - somethings are very significant, some things not so much.
The latest date to look forward is "mums birthday", in June.
Although "mum" isn't too excited at the prospect of turning another year older, Miss 6 is over the moon!
She counts down the days left in the month of May, and as soon as June swings around, its all about the next birthday!
How life is so sweet, when your excited about the smallest things. The spirit of a child is a wonderfully complex, yet simple thing. 
What are you looking forward to......?

 Travel with tots…..Traveling on holidays with little ones can be fun, it can also be a challenge. The destination in the end is usually worth it though….that is the final goal, the end result, the moment to look forward to!Try to stay calm, pack plenty of healthy snacks, colouring in books and pencils, small games and puzzles in their own backpack, for your children to engage with. Train, plane or automobile journeys can all become tiresome, long and arduous! Often children don’t have the understanding of what travel is all about - they are unfamiliar and sometimes anxious, as they leave their home with just a packed bag and one favourite toy.Try to explain the process to them and stay calm yourself….and remember, you’re going on holidays….yippee!!

Cooking class……..It’s a cold, wet and grey day outside. The garden party planned for her bestfriend’s birthday has been postposed, due to the force of mother nature. Not a great way to kick start a weekend for her or you! 

What to do…..Hhhmm? Let’s COOK! 

Cooking or baking with little ones is truly an invaluable, educational experience. As much as the mess and the clean-up aftermath may not appeal – the actual practice of home cooking is a joyful skill they may take them well into adulthood. Cooking at home provides a number of great lessons – the art of ingredient choice, nutritional value of food, safety awareness in and around the kitchen, what actually “works” and what doesn’t, cleanliness and tidiness and most of all patience! Cooking with your children also provides you all with a strong connection and loving family bond…..

To dear Tooth Fairy,

Please can I keep my tooth this time? I know you like to fly away with them, far far away, but this time, I would like to keep my tooth! My friends say you make necklaces out of children’s teeth! My mum tells me you keep them, and they help build new fairy houses.  Some people even believe you grind them up to make magic fairy dust out of them! I am not sure what you do with all those teeth, but all I know is that this time around I would LOVE to keep my tooth. The reason is.....it’s the first tooth I have lost, and I don’t want to let it go. I promise next time I will let you keep it!

Reading – whose turn is it?.....

Reading is wonderful! Children learn to read at their own time, at their own pace. Don’t force it, yet don’t ignore it. Enjoy the art of reading, comprehension and imagination with your children, each step of their way. Reading is so enjoyable, it might become a battle of whose turn it is tonight to read the book! Fast or slow, eager or reluctant…the best part about learning and mastering the art of reading is to enjoy each and every moment, together! 

Ballet or Soccer or…. ?

Activities. The choices are limitless…Is she the one who enjoys 

pirouetting around in a pink chiffon skirt, laughing and loving each 

moment and movement, with her ballerina friends…or is running 

fast and skilfully around a fresh grassy field with the sun in her hair 

and the wind in her boots more her style? Perhaps she is into 

swimming like a mermaid, silently gliding through warm water each 

week as she builds confidence as a competition swimmer? 

Does she have the voice of a nightingale, who loves to enchant 

through her singing? Perhaps she loves to read, and become "that 

character” in her favourite story book?

Our young girls – the women of our future - have so many  opportunities to individually shine!

A very special day…………….

As her little eyes open slowly, and the sunlight gently filters 

in, the feeling of wonderment sharply arrives in her little 

sleepy head! “Today” has finally arrived! The day which has 

been talked about, dreamed about, thought long &hard about, counted down to…..25, 18, 11, 7, 6, 5,4,3,2,….

Yes…today is her birthday. Her day, when friends and family

 will celebrate with her, love her and remember with her!
